Click on link above for an interesting article about trends in Humanist funerals.
While it is quite appropriate for families to arrange to have a religious content in a funeral service, it is equally possible for a service to be arranged that is completely secular in nature.
The bereaved know what is fitting for the one who has passed away and it is up to me, the celebrant, to create a funeral service which is true to the deceased and the family members left behind.
If that means having a service with perhaps The Lord's Prayer or Psalm 23, if that offers consolation and is true to the family, that is what is fitting.
If the deceased had expressed a wish that they did not want religious content in their funeral service, those organising the service are able to honour their wishes by using music & readings etc. which are relevant.
